Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, and its effects are increasingly being studied and confirmed in the West.
Acupuncture uses very fine needles, a fraction of the size of needles that you may have seen before, in specific points on the body to restore and maintain balance. You may feel nothing at all as they are inserted, or a very quick “sting”. All needles are sterile and are never re-used. Acupuncture has a very sound track record of safety with a properly trained practitioner.
I practice traditional and classical acupuncture (Dip Ac) which is the foundation from which all other types of acupuncture have developed. Some healthcare professionals with a shorter training use a reduced form of acupuncture to treat more simple conditions. You will only experience the complete system of acupuncture when you see a traditional classical acupuncturist. There are hundreds of individual acupuncture points on the body, each with a different quality, and we know how to combine these to get the best results, unique to you and your condition.
At the first consultation I take a full medical history to discover all the signs which, when taken together, give a complete picture of your state of health. Your pulses on both wrists may be taken, and your tongue examined. This allows me to determine the balance of your health in different parts of your body. Then I decide which of the hundreds of acupuncture points will be best to use for you on that day.
After the needles are inserted, you lie for about 30 minutes while you relax. Most people report a deep sense of calm, and improved sleep after a session.
Since each person is unique, the number of treatments required will vary. Sometimes changes can be felt after only a few visits, while others may require more visits and the effects felt less rapidly. Usually weekly or even twice weekly treatment sessions are best at the start. Your treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you at the first session and kept under review. I offer a range of payment options to assist you.
